Sales taxes at the local level are usually four to eight times higher than when I was a youth, and property taxes, especially in the east, can be a couple of hundred dollars a month for a small, rather ordinary home.

Taxed on savings, even taxed on Jobseekers allowance!

The only tax I am knowingly paying right now is VAT on items from shops, fuel tax, alcohol tax and road tax (although I'm not renewing the disc). I have stopped banking, and stopped paying income tax.
