A DISTRICT judge, six court clerks and a solicitor were arrested today in an investigation into corruption.

They were taken for questioning after a series of police raids.

Among those arrested was district judge David Tapp, the most senior magistrate on Merseyside.

Also arrested was Kevin Dooley, of Dooley and Co Solicitors.

All were being interviewed at Wavertree Road police station.

Magistrates courts in Merseyside were closed today for a "training day".

Mr Dooley's solicitor, Peter Quinn, declined to comment today.

Peter Wint, who is representing Mr Tapp, was unavailable for comment.

This afternoon the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the names of the six court clerks as Carol Lynch, David Greig, Peter Kelly, Mike Cartwright, Gerry Fenlon and Keith Proud.
